Field Trip 2006.

Culham to Windsor

In 2006 the field trip started at Culham station and ended at Windsor. Full details of the trip are available in the September edition of the BGS News-Sheet (Number 153) published in September 2006. Photos taken on the trip by one of the members are included here for the benefit of members.

Culham station the starting point of the 2006 field trip. This station was built in 1856 and was originally known as Abingdon Road station. It is situated on the Didcot branch line to Oxford.

The Moulsford viaduct crossing the Thames built in 1839. It consists of four 62 foot arches skewed across the river. Additional arches were added when the line was quarupled in the 1890s. The viaduct was designed by I. K. Brunel.

One of the two large houses at Steventon that were used as the GWR offices for the Director's meetings, Traffic Committee and the contractors working for the company before Paddington was built.

Mortimer station on the Reading Branch line to Basingstoke.
