Welcome to the Broad Gauge Society's 2001 exhibition. We had a selection of layouts in 4mm and 7mm scales plus trade and display stands and a demonstration by Laurie Griffin. We hope that everyone will find something of interest in this report of the show.
In 7mm scale we welcomed back Bob Harper with "Coldrennick Road" and Paul Marchese with "Edgware Road". It was six years now since we had seen the former and four years for the latter. It was interesting to see what changes had taken place in the meantime. Completing the line up of 7mm scale models was another chance to see Peter Boyce's diorama of Bristol Old Goods Shed. An interesting concept which is ideal for the space starved.
In 4mm scale there was the return of "Dorchester Junction". Originally built by John Ely in the early 1980's, it has now been bought by Sam Bee who has rebuilt much of the track and scenery and replaced the turntables at each end with cassettes. He has also built much new rolling stock. We also welcomed a new layout, "Avonside" built by Grahame Hitchen, one of our newer members.
As usual, the Society's trade stand was in attendance along with IKB Models and Kevin Robertson, plus a bring and buy stand, not to mention displays of our Millennium Project and the Firefly Trust. Last, but not least, there was Chris Saunders' Watchet display. Chris hoped to start building a model soon after the show, and would like to know of any gaps in his information!
We hope this review of the show will serve to encourage you further if you are already modelling the Broad Gauge, or to make a start if you are just thinking about it. If you are not already a member of the Society, why not join us?
Drinks and light refreshments were available throughout the day, thanks to the efforts of members and their wives. We hope that you enjoy your virtual visit to this exhibition, and that we will see you at future real meetings.
