April 2004 - Bovey station restored
The Old Bovey Station was reopened as the new Bovey Tracey Heritage Centre on April 10. It will be staffed entirely by volunteers from the Bovey Tracey Heritage Group. The planned opening times are:  weekdays 10 a.m. to 12 noon & 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; on Saturdays it will open for the morning period only (all subject to volunteer availability). Entry is free - donations welcome! - and there is adequate free parking during the opening times.
Bovey station was on the branch line from Newton Abbot to Moretonhampstead in Devon which closed 45 years ago. It is on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and there is a public walk along the track bed starting near the station.

March 2004 - Brunel's first bridge uncovered
Demolition work has revealed Isambard Kingdom Brunel's first iron bridge, just outside Paddington station in London. It is hoped that it will be rebuilt across the canal nearby. Full story from English Heritage, pictures can be found on the BBC web site.

February 2004 - Access 2 Archives database updated
The latest A2A update took place on Tuesday 24 February 2004.  The A2A database now contains more than 6.3 million catalogue entries describing archives held in 345 record offices, libraries, museums and other repositories throughout England. The Broad Gauge Society has contributed to A2A through the Tracking Railway Archives Project. More on the A2A web site
